Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts to make it in mainstream music were unsuccessful. Perry was signed to two labels and was later dropped from them prior to there was a release date for any of her recordings. Capitol Records however released Perry's EP Ur So Gay in 2007. The track that was the title track was a jolly and sly song that attracted minimal notice. I Kissed a Girl - an ode to sexual curiosity released several months later. It had a hard electro-pop sound and a strong stance. Many critics accused the track of promoting homosexual relationships however others suggested the song's sexually explicit lyrics were designed to attract men with fantasies. I Kissed a Girl became the number one hit in the world due to its combination of excitement and an elegant tune. The song also assisted her to sell a number of albums, including One of the Boys. Hot N Cold, Perry's energetic and sharply-tongued record with the second single that became a hit, also was a hit. The album Perry created herself, sold over three million copies.
