Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator, who works for NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She graduated with an Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. Mitchell began her career in the field of radio and television reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. Mitchell joined CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington she was named general correspondent by NBC News two year later. In 1981 began reporting on the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. She was made the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist, as well as anchor of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel in 1988's presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for journalism excellence, including an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell covered in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. She has covered several notable reports over the years, such as the tax reforms, budget reforms and an investigation into the Iran Contra scandal. She travelled extensively with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
